From rehearsing Pugliese to performing Pugliese for dancers, with Orquesta Típica La Barra - welcome to a three-day tango workshop for musicians. Your ticket provides access to all musician workshops, the seminar Inside Gallo Ciego, and the Milonga MARIPOSA where you will be on stage.
Playing Pugliese - Tango Workshop for Musicians
The music of Osvaldo Pugliese's orchestra is highly expressive, fascinating, and timeless. In three 3-hour workshops, you will learn how to play this tango style from La Barra's musicians. The focus will be on rhythmic concepts, articulation and accents, and ensemble playing. We will use detailed transcriptions of three of the orchestra's original recordings from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s.
These workshops are suitable for musicians who have a strong command of their instrument and are open to exploring new ways of playing. Tango experience is not required. You can participate on piano, double bass, bandoneon, accordion, violin, viola, or cello. It may be possible to accommodate musicians who play other instruments. The workshops will be led by Ingeborg Cneut (violin), Gerard van Duinen (bandoneon), Mark Wyman (piano), and Tis Marang (double bass). Other musicians from Orquesta La Barra may join the rehearsals on Friday.
